FOLEY — Pampering your pet is about to get easier.
Sea Paws Pet Resort began offering a shuttle service March 1 to transport pets to both locations, making it easier to serve customers who live in different parts of Baldwin County.
Austin Webb, one of the owners of Sea Paws, said the driving force behind the idea was to serve more pet owners without having to open a third location.
"It was actually my wife's idea [Jennifer Webb]. We plan on using the shuttle to pick up pets from between Orange Beach, Fairhope and Spanish Fort," Webb said. "As of right now, we don't anticipate going much apast I-10."
Webb said there is also a plan to potentially use the shuttle vehicle for hurricane evacuation to help get pets out in an emergency and out of harm's way.
As of now, the shuttle is offering drop-offs and pick-ups on Tuesday and Wednesday and costs $10 each way.
According to a Sea Paws newsletter, pick up times range from 7 to 9 a.m., and drop-off times range from 4 to 6 p.m.
Webb said there will also be an expansion at the Foley location in addition to starting the shuttling service.
"We are building an indoor play facility that is currently under construction, but we plan to open it before this summer," Webb said. "It is going to be much nicer and a great way to have a climate-controlled play environment for the animals to enjoy during all seasons."
Webb said both locations will still offer the usual services, including group play facilities, daycare and overnight boarding."
Webb said the idea for the pet resort began in 2016 when his mother-in-law [Paula Gonzales] vacationed in Gulf Shores and fell in love with the area.
"She would bring her dogs and noticed there was nowhere around to take them that was similar to her daycare in Texas," Webb said. "When she retired, she decided to move out here and open her own daycare, which was our first location [in Gulf Shores]."
Webb said he and his wife quickly followed and moved to Baldwin County a few years later to open a second location in Foley.
