Salty Shuffle Poker Run to make waves for local housing insecurity initiative

Boaters will set sail for a cause on June 14 as the inaugural Salty Shuffle Poker Run by Boat makes its debut, raising money for the Sea Glass Initiative's fight against housing insecurity in Baldwin County.

The event, presented by M & N Construction of Magnolia Springs and Legendary Marine Gulf Shores, invites participants to cruise the Intracoastal Waterway, collecting poker chips from waterfront venues along the route. Each stop offers players a chance to build their best hand — all while supporting neighbors in need.

The Sea Glass Initiative, a local nonprofit, works to address housing insecurity through one-on-one support, sustainable housing solutions and community partnerships. According to the group, more than 700 people, including over 250 children, are currently experiencing homelessness in Baldwin County, with more than 60% having lived in the area for at least a decade or their entire lives.

The event takes place Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants can start anywhere along the Intracoastal Waterway and must finish by 3 p.m. at Legendary Marina & Yacht Club in Gulf Shores.

Participants can collect chips at 13 designated stops, including:

• Tacky Jacks (Gulf Shores & Orange Beach)

• Tiki Bar (Orange Beach)

• Barometer (Orange Beach)

• OSO (Orange Beach)

• Jesse's on the Bay (Fort Morgan)

• Shipp's Dockside Grill (Orange Beach)

• Flora-Bama Yacht Club (Perdido Key, Florida)

• Yoho Rum & Tacos Boat Bar (The Wharf)

• Mile Marker 158 (The Wharf)

• Cobalt (Orange Beach)

• GT's on the Bay (Orange Beach)

• Pirate's Cove (Josephine)

Each stop offers one chip, with a bonus chip available for a food or drink purchase. A minimum of five chips are required to build a hand, and additional cards can be bought for $50 before revealing a hand. The winner with the best hand will pocket a $1,000 cash prize.

The wrap-up party at Legendary Marina & Yacht Club promises entertainment, Dr. Snow's Food Truck, a live DJ, silent auction, Plinko, a 50/50 raffle and the highly anticipated Best Dressed Dad Contest. The contest celebrates Father's Day weekend with a twist, inviting participants to show off their most hilarious dad attire — think black socks with crocks, white New Balance shoes, jorts and dad jokes. All ages and genders are welcome.

Registration costs $100 per boat captain and includes a swag bag with a T-shirt and other goodies. Additional players can join for $30 each. To register, visit www.TheSeaGlassInitiative.com under 'News & Events.'

Additional sponsors include Sunny 105.7 Radio, The Voice of Paradise, Alabama Credit Union, Shrimp on the Go, South Shore Insurance, DJ Terrence J Bennett and Dr. Snow's Food Truck.

Proceeds from the Salty Shuffle will help the Sea Glass Initiative continue its mission to provide stable housing and dignity for individuals and families in Baldwin County. For more information visit www.TheSeaGlassInitiative.com or follow SeaGlassInitiative on social media.
