It's football season, and that means it's time to strike up the grill and get to serving sizzling meats and mouth-watering meals as friends and family take sides on who should reign victorious when the clock is at zero.

Never mind. That sounds like a lot of work. Let's go out to eat instead.

Baldwin County and the Alabama Gulf Coast is known for its white sand beaches, its boutique shopping and its natural amenities that offer hunting, hiking and fishing from the coast to inland alcoves. But that's not the only thing we're known for. We've got some pretty delicious dining options, too.

And because we know everyone has an opinion about the best places to take visiting friends and family, recommend to wondering Facebook questioners and make a date or family night out, Gulf Coast Media is set to launch the UltiMEAT Bracket, presented by Parish Tractor.

"We recognize that a lot of the national news people consume these days can add stress to their daily lives, and we make an effort to not only inform our readers about what's going on locally but to celebrate the communities that and people who make our area so attractive to residents and visitors alike," said Kayla Green, GCM executive editor. "We've seen how much the community loves our annual Best of Baldwin readers choice contest, so we wanted to give them more reasons to love Baldwin County. What better way than a low-stakes, fun and friendly competition about which people will have plenty of opinions over. What's the best seafood down here? Where can you find the juiciest burger, the most gourmet steak or finger licking-ist chicken? We can't wait to see what you all think."

Starting Sept. 4, the public can vote on their favorite dishes. Broken down into four regions, 32 of Baldwin County's favorite restaurants will battle it out to find the top menu item around.

Regions will be broken down into beef, chicken, seafood and pork/lamb, with a regional winner moving on to the final four round.

Round 1, featuring all 32 dishes and restaurants, will be voted on from Sept. 4 through Sept. 10.

In Round 2, 16 teams will need your vote between Sept. 11 and Sept. 17.

Winners of those matchups will move to Round 3, with voting from Sept. 18 to Sept. 24.

The final four dishes will be featured in articles the following week before voting resumes on Oct. 2 through Oct. 6.

The championship round will be voted on between Oct. 7 and Oct. 9.

No subscription is required to vote. Participants can vote once per round in each matchup.
