Robertsdale seniors host Veterans Day ceremony

ROBERTSDALE — Seniors from the George P. Thames Adult Activity Center honored 21 veterans during a special ceremony held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the PZK Hall in Robertsdale.

Guest speakers, introduced by Mayor Charles Murphy, included Coletta Bailey, who spoke about the World War I and World War II exhibit currently on display at the Baldwin Heritage Museum in Elberta; Commander Don Madden with the American Legion Post 99 in Foley and County Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood.

The program also included a special video presentation and a flag folding ceremony presented by the U.S. Armed Forces Honor Guard. Colors were presented by the Robertsdale High School Naval Junior ROTC. Pins and certificates were presented to veterans by Madden, Robert Bunton, adjutant for American Legion Post 99 and Melissa McElroy with Alabama Hospice Care. Lunch was served following the ceremony with cake donated by Kindred Hospice. After lunch, 12 lap blankets, donated by the Stitch-N-Friends quilting club, were given away to veterans.
