Everyone needs eternal security. Isaiah 53:6 reads, "All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." Isaiah presents God's solution for the sheep of humanity. From John 10:22-30 notice three necessary things.

First, note, you need to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. John 10:22-26 reads, "Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch. Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, 'How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.' Jesus answered them, 'I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father's name, they bear witness of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.'" Merrill C. Tenney wrote a classic commentary titled, John: The Gospel of Belief. John writes, "And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name" (John 20:30-31).

Second, note, you need to behave like the Lord Jesus Christ. John 10:27 reads, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." To follow the Lord is "to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called" (Ephesians 4:1). 1 Peter 2:21 reads, "For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps." May we humbly sing with the hymnwriter, "Savior, like a shepherd lead us."

Third, note, you need to benefit from the Lord Jesus Christ. John 10:28-30 reads, "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one." Those who have received the provision of the grace of God are in the protection of the grip of God. Oh, the beneficence of our great Benefactor! Jesus promised, "that whoever believes in Him [the Son of Man] should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:15). Romans 8:38-39 reads, "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Philippians 1:6 reads, "being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." Now that's eternal security.
