Red Cross calls for blood donations amid Hurricane Helene's aftermath

Posted

The American Red Cross is calling on donors to help replenish critically needed blood products following the disruption caused by Hurricane Helene.

Since making landfall, the storm has led to the cancellation of over 100 blood drives across the Southeast, resulting in thousands of missed blood and platelet donations.

With many individuals relying on urgent medical care, including vital blood transfusions, the need for donations is more pressing than ever. The Red Cross operates a national inventory system, allowing them to move blood supplies wherever they are needed most. As the organization works tirelessly to meet these urgent needs, they are also providing essential relief services — such as food, water, shelter and support — to communities affected by the hurricane.

To maintain a stable blood supply in the coming weeks, the Red Cross encourages donors from unaffected areas to make an appointment to give blood. Those interested can visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App to schedule their donation.

Throughout October, donors will receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card by email, along with automatic entry for a chance to win one of three $5,000 gift cards. For more details, visit RedCrossBlood.org/Treat.
