Prodisee Pantry held its final Thanksgiving food distribution the Tuesday morning before the holiday for Baldwin County residents who are food insecure.
The nonprofit, which distributes food year-round, begins preparing for the holiday in July by ordering more than 1,300 turkeys. Prior to the event, for the month of November, Prodisee Pantry and its volunteers had distributed 1,040 Thanksgiving feasts (weighing close to 76 tons) and expected to get close to 1,500 with several hundred additional families being served Nov. 26.
The food boxes are loaded with turkeys and fixings along with what they deem their “regular” emergency food items. After getting Thanksgiving efforts in the books, Prodisee Pantry hosted hundreds of volunteers to pack 1,000 Christmas food boxes on Saturday. These boxes are in addition to their regular food distribution for December.
