Perdue Foods LLC is recalling approximately 167,171 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products due to potential contamination with metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced last week.
The recall affects several products produced on March 23 of this year, including:
These products, which bear the establishment number "P-33944" on the back of the package, were shipped to retail locations nationwide and sold online directly to consumers.
The issue came to light after Perdue received consumer complaints about metal wire found in the chicken products. Upon notification, the company alerted FSIS, prompting the recall. At this time, no injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with the contaminated products.
FSIS is urging consumers who may have purchased the recalled items to check their freezers. Affected products should not be consumed and should either be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
Perdue is working with FSIS to ensure that all potentially contaminated products are removed from the market. The agency routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that customers have been notified and that the recalled products are no longer available to consumers.
Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Perdue Consumer Care at 1-866-866-3703. More information about the recall can be found at www.fsis.usda.gov.
