Perdido Pass Seawall Park closed for repairs from Sally damage

Posted

The City of Orange Beach announced on May 24 that the west side of the Perdido Pass Seawall Parkwill be closed for damage repairs caused by Hurricane Sally.

According to a post released from the city's official Facebook page, the west side of the park and parking lot will be fenced off during the repairs, and the north side of the park and parking lot will remain open to the public.

"Once the west side is repaired, which will take 35-40 days weather permitting, that section will open back up and the fencing will be moved to the north side to complete repairs, as well as expand and improve the park area," the city posted.

According to the post, Orange Beach made $200,000 worth of repairs to the area by shoring up dangerous parts of the park and adding palm trees, enhanced lighting, boardwalks and benches in 2017. However, damage caused by the September 2020 hurricane destroyed many of the boardwalks, foundations and utility lines at the park.

City council awarded the FEMA-supported repair portion of the project to MD Thomas Construction LLC for $695,597.

"The rebuild will include a Phase 3 extension of the boardwalk north of the bridge as well as parking improvements," the city posted.
