Pen Air donates to Baldwin schools

Posted

Pen Air Federal Credit Union presented the Baldwin County Education Coalition with a check worth $8,827.53 courtesy of the Share It® program.

"Pen Air's pledge to support education is directly shown through our Share It® program," said Casey Brueske, community education development specialist for Pen Air Federal Credit Union. "This program offers our members a chance to partner with us and enhance the lives of students in their local community by funding programs, like the Palm Project, in Baldwin County Schools. All you have to do is swipe your card."

Share It® cards donate .01¢ for every signature-based debit card transaction made to the local school district of choice at no cost to you. Once enrolled, members select the school district of their choosing between Escambia County, Florida, Santa Rosa County, Florida and Baldwin County, Alabama and the program does the rest.

"We are so grateful for our partnership with Pen Air! One-hundred percent of the Share It® funds will go toward our Palm Project Initiative," said Terry Burkle, executive director for the Baldwin County Education Coalition (BCEC).

Share It® funds have previously provided teachers in Baldwin County's Public Schools with professional development and classroom literacy resources geared toward improving student achievement.

"The Palm project is an initiative that provides necessary items for Baldwin County students to reduce barriers in learning, enhance academic achievement and support social-emotional development. With 49% of our students classified as poverty, the need is great," Burkle said.
