Patricia Hess Zimmermann, age 81, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.
She was a native of West Arlington, Vermont, and a longtime resident of Fairhope, Alabama.
Pat had a passion for learning. She received a bachelor’s degree from The University of Vermont and a master’s degree from the University of South Alabama. A normal four-hour road trip would turn into a 14-hour adventure with Pat as she went off the beaten path to discover local eateries, find every eclectic spot, historical site and funky flea market.
She began her teaching career in Winsted, Connecticut and retired from teaching at Citronelle High School. She even spent a short time teaching high school on the U.S. Navy Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
She loved reading, gardening, and cooking. She often spent her free time shopping for unique bargains, collecting fabric and creating masterpieces on the sewing machine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrie and Elizabeth Hess and her brother, Alan Hess.
Her survivors include her husband of 58 years, Harold Zimmermann; her sons, Matthew (Carolyn) Zimmermann of La Crosse, Wisconsin, John (Lawanna) Zimmermann of Live Oak, Florida and daughter, Jennifer Zimmermann of Fairhope; also her sister, Mary Johnson of North Bennington, VT and brother, Michael Hess of West Arlington, VT; her grandchildren, Logan (Helena) Zimmermann and Larson Zimmermann of Live Oak, FL and Regan Coppage, Loren Coppage and Lorelei Coppage of Fairhope, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services have not yet been made.
