Can't get enough of Mardi Gras?
OWA has a lineup of events to keep the good times rolling, from kid-friendly celebrations to a pet parade and a grand finale with a float-filled parade and after-party.
Festivities kick off Feb. 22 with the Krewe du Kidz Masquerade, a family-friendly event featuring Moon Pie Bingo, a Bubble Dance Party, mask and necklace decorating, and a Shoebox Float contest. Children can enter to be crowned Krewe du Kidz King or Queen, with winners announced at 4:45 p.m. The newly crowned royalty will be invited to ride on OWA's float during the Mardi Gras Parade & Party on March 2.
What: A family-friendly celebration featuring games, crafts and a royal crowning.
When: Feb. 22, noon-5 p.m.

Noon-3:30 p.m. – Face painting, balloon artist and caricatures
Noon-4 p.m. – Stilt walkers roaming Downtown OWA
Noon-4:30 p.m. – Shoebox Float Decorating Contest (winners announced at 4:30 p.m.)
Noon-5 p.m. – DJ Bubble Party, Moon Pie Bingo, mask and necklace decorating
4:45 p.m. – Crowning of Krewe du Kidz King and Queen
The celebration continues March 1 with the Puppy Gras Pet Parade and Costume Contest in Downtown OWA. Pet owners are encouraged to dress up their furry companions in Mardi Gras attire for a parade and costume contest.
What: A pet-friendly Mardi Gras parade and costume contest.
When: March 1, 1-5 p.m. (parade starts at 2:30 p.m.)
Where: OWA Island
Price: $15 parade entry fee
1-2 p.m. – On-site registration at OWA Island
1-5 p.m. – Live DJ, pet adoptions, dog-friendly activities, treat stations
2:30 p.m. – Parade kickoff
Following parade – Costume contest, K-9 training demonstration, award ceremony
OWA's Mardi Gras Parade & After Party on March 2 caps off the festivities, featuring a grand procession, live music and entertainment.
What: A Mardi Gras parade followed by live music, entertainment and contests.
When: March 2, 2-8:30 p.m. (parade at 6 p.m.)

2-4 p.m. – Live music by 5 Mile Brass
2-5 p.m. – Face painters, glitter tattoos
2-8:30 p.m. – Chalk mural art, stilt walkers roaming Downtown OWA
3 p.m. – Moon Pie Eating Contest (prizes awarded)
4 p.m. – King Cake Walk (while supplies last)
4:30-6 p.m. & 7-8 p.m. – Live music by Rockin' Dopsie Jr. and the Zydeco Twisters
6 p.m. – Mardi Gras Parade
7:30 p.m. – Parade awards ($100 prizes for Best Float, Best Krewe, Best Throws, Best Band and OWA's Choice)
