Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores hosted its first-ever pet blessing event to celebrate St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, on Oct. 4. About 50 people and about 30 pets — from a chinchilla to all kinds of dogs, including police K-9 units — attended the event, which was set up at Meyer Park in Gulf Shores. At the celebration, attendees could enjoy the photo booth and get treats for people and pets. Adoption opportunities were also available during the event.
