Orange Beach's Robertson commits to University of Tusculum basketball

Pioneers won 19 conference games for third seed in South Atlantic Conference Tournament

Orange Beach senior Joey Robertson announced his commitment to the University of Tusculum basketball program over the weekend.

The Pioneers were the third college basketball program to offer the Makos' first all-state boys' basketball player and Robertson made it official with a verbal pledge Saturday, Sept. 10.

Robertson was previously offered by the University of Montevallo July 2, as well as Texas A&M University-Texarkana Aug. 4, before Tusculum extended one Aug. 22.

Last season in the South Atlantic Conference, the Pioneers finished 19-8 overall with all 19 wins coming in conference play for the third seed in the tournament. Tusculum won its last five regular-season games but fell in the first round of the tournament to the Newberry Wolves, 60-59.

As a junior for Orange Beach last season, Robertson helped the Makos to a school-record 12 regular season wins and a second-place finish in Class 2A Area 1 although they too fell in the first round of the playoffs.

The 6' 6", 190-pound guard/forward averaged more than 16 points and eight rebounds per game with a field goal percentage of 52% and a three-point percentage of 70%. Robertson was also named to Class 2A Area 1's all-area first-team as well as the all-area tournament team.
