The Orange Beach softball team that won a second consecutive Class 2A state championship in the spring was recognized last night with a ring ceremony.
The Makos finally took home hardware after an undefeated postseason to defend their state crown.
Orange Beach won its regional circuit with wins over Washington County, Ariton and Long. In the double-elimination state bracket, the Makos took down Luverne, Hatton and Mars Hill Bible before freshman Daigle Wilson delivered a walk-off single that scored Falyn Beebe to beat Mars Hill a second time for a second straight Blue Map trophy.
With the rest of the Orange Beach athletics programs, the Mako softball team will similarly move up to Class 4A for the next biennial realignment of the Alabama High School Athletic Association starting this upcoming season. Orange Beach joins Mobile Christian, St. Michael Catholic and UMS-Wright Prep in Area 1.
