Fishing is one of America's favorite activities, and that is seen daily across the Alabama Gulf Coast, from the white sandy beaches to rivers and inlets of the Eastern Shore. According to the world's largest platform for booking fishing trips, Pleasure Island cities sit atop the state in this realm, and Baldwin County cities claimed five of the 10 top spots.

FishingBooker proclaimed Orange Beach as the best fishing town in the state of Alabama for 2024. With a score of 52 points out of a possible 60, Orange Beach comfortably leads in the state, thanks to its outstanding fishing charters, exceptional reviews and high number of bookings, according to the group. Gulf Shores came in second with 45 points.

The platform has been connecting anglers and fishing guides since 2013, with over 47,000 fishing trips available in more than 2,200 destinations worldwide.

METHODOLOGY

FishingBooker's rankings are based on six key criteria. Using data collected over the past year from more than 100,000 fishing trips and reviews on its site, the platform looked at the:

  • Number of available fishing charters;
  • Average review score;
  • Average recommended score;
  • Number of guides with the Angler's Choice Award;
  • Number of bookings; and
  • Minimum price of a fishing trip.

All of the above criteria were taken into account for the past year. For any location to be considered, at least one booking had to have been made there in the past 365 days.

WHY DID ORANGE BEACH TAKE THE TOP SPOT?

Orange Beach's 52 points included the full 10 points possible in two categories. These were:

  • Number of guides with the Angler's Choice Award; and
  • Number of bookings.
