Orange Beach school board recognizes national champion Mako softball team
Championship signage announced, celebration scheduled for July 30
The Orange Beach Mako softball team was recognized at the July 11 meeting of the school board at city hall after a fourth straight state championship helped earn a national champion title from MaxPreps. A community national championship celebration was scheduled for July 30 at the softball stadium inside the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

Orange Beach finished 46-1 overall with three wins over other top-10 teams in MaxPreps' national poll.

The Mako softball team was a distinguished guest of the Orange Beach City School Board during July 11’s regular meeting where a proclamation was made to honor the state's first-ever MaxPreps National Champion.
A 46-1 record, including three wins over other top-10 nationally-ranked teams, culminated with a fourth-straight state title to become only the fourth AHSAA team to win four consecutive Blue Maps.
Team members received a copy of their proclamation made by Superintendent Randy Wilkes who also announced a national championship celebration scheduled for July 30. While plans were also announced to unveil new signage recognizing the championships, head coach Shane Alexander suggested there be room for additions.
