Rods, reels and excitement will be in the air May 3 as the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay hosts its 22nd Annual Kids Fishing Rodeo at Schaff Pond.

Children ages 2 to 12 are invited to join the free event, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants must be accompanied by an adult and are encouraged to bring their own chairs, buckets, fishing poles and bait. A limited number of poles and bait will be available on site.

The fishing rodeo includes a hot dog lunch for all attendees and offers awards in multiple categories, adding a competitive edge to a morning of outdoor fun. While bass and bream can be taken home, catfish must be released after catching.

The pond is located at 32695 Bartel Street in Elberta. From Lillian, drivers can turn north on County Road 93 for one mile, then head west on Bartel Road for four tenths of a mile. The pond is on the right.

Permission forms will be available at the pond. For more information, call (251) 284-3793 or (636) 236-5226.
