One weekend left to attend Mobile Renaissance Faire and Wild West Pirate Fest in Robertsdale

Where can you go to watch two armored knights jousting while listening to an “Irish jig” rendition of Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!” while also snacking on a jumbo turkey leg? Why, the Mobile Renaissance Faire and Wild West Pirate Fest of course!

Though it has Mobile in its name, the Faire is in Robertsdale, and there is still a weekend left if you missed last weekend's fun.

Energy is in no short supply with recurring shows from bands playing music ranging from country to medieval. In between musical acts, performers such as magicians, dancers, hypnotists and gun fighters keep the audience entertained.

Merchants across the lot sell just about anything, such as accessories like swords, shields, potions and parasols, alongside snacks like carnival foods and freeze-dried candies. Other items for sale are more for decoration, such as the stuffed raccoons holding items like a mini guitar, rifle or fishing pole.

Interactive merchants have booths for archery and axe throwing with prizes to be won.

Attendees bring additional energy, as all were dressed in a variety of different costumes. There are no requirements for what type of attire one can wear to the Faire. Some come dressed as renaissance knights or whimsical fairies, and others who attended last weekend dressed as pirates and cowboys.

“We encourage any costumes related to the past,” according to the Faire’s website, “Renaissance, medieval, western and history-related characters. Heck, if you want to be Darth Vader, then so be it.”

Costumes are not required for entry but are encouraged. The website states that the event is an attempt to blend the past with the present, and so some modern attire is necessary.

The 2024 Mobile Renaissance Faire and Wild West Pirate Fest will be held for two weekends starting last weekend and also Nov. 23-24, with tickets available for purchase at the entrance or online at www.gcrf.us. Free tickets for entry are available if attendees give blood at the blood drive directly next to the Faire entrance. Those who donate blood will also receive a free T-shirt.

Doors open at 10 a.m., and most of the demonstrations end at around 6 p.m. for a full day of renaissance, cowboy and pirate fun. Arriving before noon is recommended to secure a parking spot onsite.
