Nova-Tech recalls animal IV solution due to contamination risk

Posted

Nova-Tech, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of Lactated Ringers Injection for Animal Use Only after discovering potential contamination with fiber-like particles.

The recall, conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, affects lot # C2411061, which was distributed nationwide between Dec. 31, 2024, and Feb. 28 of this year.

The injectable solution, packaged in 5-liter IV bags with two units per case, is used under veterinary supervision. The issue was identified during a routine stability test when visible particulate matter was detected. While no adverse events have been reported, administering a product containing particles could pose serious health risks, including inflammation, granuloma and life-threatening blood clots that could lead to stroke or death.

Animals receiving the affected product may experience symptoms such as pain, swelling, paralysis, fever, labored breathing, vomiting or loss of consciousness. Veterinarians are urged to return any recalled product to their distributor.

Nova-Tech is notifying distributors and customers by email and mail and has arranged for the return of affected products. Consumers with questions can contact the company at (308) 381-8841 or email contact@novatech-inc.com Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST. Suspected adverse reactions or quality issues can be reported to the FDA at www.FDA.gov/reportanimalAE.
