GULF SHORES — A new type of hair salon is filling a gap in women's needs in Baldwin County, nestled in a quiet, shaded corner of Gulf Shores.
Not every trip to the hair salon needs to be a full cut, wash and dry. Sometimes all a girl needs is to walk out with a cleaned head of hair blown dry and styled for an event, a family photo shoot or simply to put some pep in her step.
That's what Amanda Manjone is aiming for at her new salon, Beachy Blowout Bar, 117 E. 14th Ave., Gulf Shores. She said she realized there isn't a salon that only offers blowouts near her without having to drive at least nearly an hour, and she figured other people would also want the option to get their hair styled without getting a cut.
In its simplest form, a blowout is when you get your hair dried after a wash and set into a desired style. You can create curly, wavy or straight hair without the use of a curling or flatiron. While simply blow drying is meant to dry and reduce frizziness, blowing out adds volume and intentional style.
Manjone attended an entrepreneurial development workshop at her local Chamber of Commerce, and while she didn't always have the idea of a blowout bar in her goals, she said she has always wanted to own her own business, having started her entrepreneurial path with another business in Orange Beach. A salon, however, was out of her comfort zone.
When the space opened up for rent, she took the opportunity and hired three stylists.
They also offer makeup sessions that can be great for a formal event, photoshoot or, like one of their customers from Orange Beach High School on their opening day earlier in September, homecoming.
Beachy Blowout Bar offers memberships and a loyalty program.
