After she closed her high school career against some of the country’s best athletes at the Nike Outdoor National Championships, it should be no surprise that Foley alum Emily Wolf hasn’t missed a beat since transitioning to the college level with the Montevallo Falcons.
2023’s Class 7A outdoor shot put state champion, Wolf recently collected her third Gulf South Conference Freshman and Field Athlete of the Week honor after she won the shot put event at Montevallo’s host meet, the Falcon Classic and Multi, last weekend. Wolf added personal records in three more events to help Montevallo take third place in the team competition.
Not only did she win the shot put with a distance of 12.22 meters, but she also extended her own school record in the discus to 41.86 meters. Both of those marks entered this weekend’s competition as best in the conference.
The former Foley Lion added a 47.16-meter hammer throw and a 33.25-meter javelin throw to extend other personal records last weekend as well as help rack up five podium finishes on the outdoor season that only started this month.
Wolf, who broke the Falcons’ indoor shot put school record three times, turned in a similarly impressive indoor season. The final record came at the right time where her 12.74-meter shot put locked up a conference championship after she led in the event’s rankings all season.
All-Region honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association capped Wolf’s first collegiate indoor track season and set the measuring stick for next year.
Before then, Wolf will be back in action this weekend at Emory Thrills in the Hills in Atlanta with only two more meets before the Gulf South Conference’s Outdoor Championships on May 2-4 at Montevallo.
