Baldwin County High School's Tiaquelin Mims was named a regional winner for the Bryant Jordan Student-Athlete Scholarship Program.

The prestigious award, named in honor of the late coaches Paul "Bear" Bryant of Alabama and Ralph "Shug" Jordan of Auburn, recognizes 52 regional scholar-athlete winners selected for their excellence in athletics and academics as well as 52 achievement winners chosen for their ability to overcome major obstacles during their high school careers.

Each of the 104 regional winners received a $3,000 scholarship.

The awards presentation took place Monday, April 11, in Birmingham. At the awards ceremony, the regional winners were recognized as well as the 14 Class Winners who received an additional $3,500 and the two overall state winners who received an additional stipend of $4,000.

Mims served as quarterback for BCHS, leading the team to an 8-4 record and to the second round of play-offs. Along the way he accounted for more than 3,000 total yards and 33 touchdowns for his senior season.

He will continue his football career at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Among those making the trip to the banquet included Coach Scott Rials, Coach Mark Heaton, Assistant Athletic Coordinator Tabetha Davis, and Principal Craig Smith.
