Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Cynthia Tucker and NBC legal analyst Barbara McQuade will lead a public conversation on the dangers of disinformation Wednesday, June 25, at 6 p.m. at the Fairhope United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in the Christian Life Center.
The event, titled "Disinformation: A Threat to Democracy?," is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Baldwin County and is free and open to the public.
McQuade, a former U.S. attorney and current law professor, is on a national book tour promoting the paperback release of her book "Attack from Within: How Disinformation Is Sabotaging America." The book explores how falsehoods spread through media, politics and social networks undermine democratic institutions. McQuade also outlines steps to combat disinformation, including efforts to strengthen journalism and promote truth-based civic discourse.
Attendees are encouraged to bring copies of McQuade’s book for signing following the discussion. Books are available for purchase at www.pageandpalette.com/preorders/attack-from-within-paperback-release-63. Books will not be available for purchase at the event.
Tucker, a professor and journalist in residence at the University of South Alabama, brings decades of experience in political commentary to the conversation. Her work as a syndicated columnist has appeared in newspapers across the country.
The League of Women Voters of Baldwin County, a nonpartisan organization, works to educate voters and encourage active participation in government. For more information, visit https://lwvbaldwin.org/.
