MAGNOLIA SPRINGS — The town of Magnolia Springs has been named the Most Charming Small Town in Alabama by the "Trips to Discover" digital travel magazine.

"It's quite an honor," said Magnolia Springs Mayor Kim Koniar. "We all know what a great place Magnolia Springs and we are lucky to receive national recognition."

The magazine named its top picks in every state.

"Nestled along the Magnolia River in southern Alabama, just a short drive from the beautiful beaches in Gulf Shores, most people simply pass through Magnolia Springs on their way to soak up the sun and the sand, but it's well worth a visit of its own," the magazine's article said of the town.

Originally named Magnolia Plantation, the town's name was changed due to the abundance of magnolias and natural springs.
"It's often called the state's prettiest town, with many homes that have magnolia trees planted in the yards while historic buildings add to the appeal," according to the magazine.

The magazine suggested a visit to Jesse's Restaurant, which offers steak and a variety of fresh seafood.

"It's really like a real life Mayberry," Koniar said. "With the river mail delivery, the oaks lining the streets and pot-luck dinners, it's just a fantastic place to live. We're just glad the rest of the world gets to see the charm."
