The Orange Beach Makos Academics, Arts, and Athletics Club (MAAAC) presented a $75,000 donation to the Orange Beach City Schools during the Makos varsity football game on Thursday, Oct. 10, marking a significant milestone in the community's ongoing support for local education.

The contribution, made possible through the generosity of MAAAC members and local sponsors, highlights the club's commitment to enhancing the academic, artistic and athletic programs for K-12 students in the city. According to a news release, he funds were raised throughout 2024, with a large portion coming from the annual MAAAC Gala, which alone generated over $30,000. Additional support from regional businesses and individuals helped bolster the total donation.

"We are thrilled to have the community behind this donation to the Orange Beach City School System," MAAAC Board President and Senior Vice President of Bryant Bank Matt Fetner said in the release. "It has been amazing to see the increase in involvement in supporting MAAAC since its formation. We continue to be committed to partnering with the City of Orange Beach and the Orange Beach City School System to support the education of area students."

MAAAC, founded in 2019, has distributed more than $1.5 million to support the educational development of Orange Beach students, underscoring its dedication to fostering growth in all aspects of student life. The organization hosts fundraising events, mobilizes volunteers, and works with community business partners to secure resources for student initiatives.

Randy Wilkes, Superintendent of Orange Beach City Schools, expressed his appreciation for the substantial donation.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Makos Academic, Arts, and Athletics Club for their generous donation to our students. This kind of support not only enhances our programs but also shows a strong commitment to the success and well-being of our young scholars, artists, and athletes. The contribution will go a long way in providing them with opportunities to excel and grow in all areas of their education," Wilkes said.

In addition to the October donation, MAAAC announced plans for a second distribution to Orange Beach City Schools in November, further expanding its efforts to support both educators and students.

As the organization continues to build on its mission, MAAAC invites the entire community to stay engaged and contribute to initiatives that enrich the educational experience for Orange Beach students. For more information or to get involved, visit www.obmaaac.org.
