Thousands of rubber ducks will take a dive into the lake at OWA Parks & Resort on March 22, all racing toward the chance to win a Carnival cruise for two.
The second annual Rubber Ducky Regatta, benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile, invites participants to “adopt” a lucky duck for a shot at one of several prizes while supporting families in need. According to a news release, up to 10,000 ducks will be released into the water, with the top three finishers earning big rewards.
First place will receive a cruise for two aboard a Carnival cruise ship departing from any North American port, along with two 2025 season passes to Tropic Falls at OWA. Second place will win a $1,000 Rouses Market gift card, a Family 4-Pack of Tropic Falls general admission tickets, and two tickets to see the Red Clay Strays at The Wharf Amphitheater on July 5. The third-place finisher will take home a one-year membership to Rich’s Car Wash and two Tropic Falls general admission tickets.
The day’s festivities kick off at 11 a.m. with family-friendly activities, games, bounce houses, music, and specials at Downtown OWA’s shops and restaurants. New this year, the event will feature the first-ever Rubber Ducky Jeep Show and Competition, where participants can decorate their Jeeps in a “Superheroes” theme, honoring the strength of hospitalized children and their families. Cooking demonstrations and a Ronald McDonald House scavenger hunt will also take place throughout the day.
Attendees can purchase “Chance to Win” tickets for additional prizes, including OWA and McDonald’s swag, restaurant gift certificates, and an annual membership to the new Pickleball at OWA indoor courts.
Proceeds from the event will support the Ronald McDonald House of Mobile, which provides a home away from home for families with children receiving critical medical care at area hospitals. Each year, more than 700 families from Baldwin and Mobile counties and beyond rely on the charity for accommodations, meals, and support during their child’s treatment.
“Since 2000, our mission at Ronald McDonald House of Mobile has been to provide everything a family needs while they’re with us so they can focus solely on the health of their child,” executive director of RMHC of Mobile Paul Giardina said on the release. “A family event at a family park is the perfect way to have community members of all ages support those families who need our help.”
Duck adoption packages range from $5 for a single duck to $350 for a flock of 100. To adopt a duck, visit rubberduckyregatta.com.
