LOXLEY — The town of Loxley kicked off celebrations ahead of Veterans Day with a program to honor veterans on Friday, Nov. 5 at the Loxley Civic Center.

The program was kicked off by a presentation of colors by the Robertsdale High School Naval Junior ROTC, which included flags representing each branch of service with that branch’s signature song, was followed by a potluck meal and a short program, featuring music from the Loxley’s own City Rhythm Big Band, patriotic music by Bennie Green, and an explanation of the 13 folds of the flag, presented by the U.S. Armed Forces Honor Guard.

Veterans from all military conflicts were honored, along with wives and widows of veterans. Dozens of door prizes were handed out, including a custom grill donated by the Ace Hardware Distribution Center of Loxley, especially for a veteran, which was won by Herman Harville, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force who served in Korea and Vietnam. Council Member Jeff Knight served as master of ceremonies.

Door prizes were handed out by Council Member Katherine Breeden and members of the DAV Ladies Auxiliary.
