Lower Alabama Young Professionals (LAYP) is gearing up to host their fourth-annual Barks, Bags, & Bushwackers event at the Flora-Bama Yacht Club on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The cornhole tournament and social gathering, set to take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., promises a fun-filled day while supporting a worthy cause.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Service Dogs Alabama, a nonprofit organization that provides medical and psychiatric service dogs to children, adults and veterans with disabilities. Last year, the event raised $1,000 for the organization, with hopes of surpassing that this year.
LAYP, a group dedicated to connecting, engaging, and developing young professionals in the region, sees this event as more than just a social gathering.
"Philanthropy is at the heart of what we do," Cory Skipper, chairman of the LAYP group, said in a news release. "We love being able to engage people in the community by combining fun and outreach through our partnerships."
Open to individuals 21 and over, attendees can participate in two ways:
Tournament play: For $40, teams of two can enter the organized cornhole tournament, with a chance to win cash and prizes.
Casual play: For $15, attendees can enjoy casual cornhole games and networking opportunities.
All participants will receive a complimentary bushwacker, and tickets can be purchased in advance through the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber's website at www.mygulfcoastchamber.com.
