'Love' brings Theatre 98 back to life

"Love" makes the world go round and the curtains rise at Fairhope's Theatre 98 after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
"I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!" begins its three-week run on Friday, March 25.
Cast members were rehearsing the show in 2020 when the pandemic shut the doors. This year director Robin Ann Page recast the piece and the crew fell back in love with life on stage as they crafted the show's stories of love, life, loss and finding love again.
"It's wonderful to get our creative juices flowing again and to work with such talent," Page said. "I have an incredible cast."
Page says the comedy is told as a musical review with scenes and sketches rather than a single plot. The theme is, you guessed it, love.

The stories, written by Joe DiPietro, range from funny and poignant to heartbreaking as audiences catch glimpses of couples on blind dates, falling in love, marrying, having children and facing the death of their partner.
In each story, love prevails. Musical director Brandon Marcus said the music, written by Jimmy Roberts with lyrics by DiPietro, is easy to connect with.
"I think love is such a central theme in this show and something we need at this time in this country," Marcus said. "This show really teaches us all that at the end of the day love is going to get you through it and love is what you have to follow."
The cast includes local favorites Dalton Bodet, Ashley Campbell, Jeff Lovingood and Tessa Moody who have all performed in previous Theatre 98 productions and on other local stages. Newcomer Brian Liddy, a BBQ Pit Master when he is not performing, rounds out the cast.
Marcus said the entire crew fell in love with the show, even if it took a few years longer than expected.
"It's such a fun, joyful show," he said.
