Longtime local and owner continues to serve community through CiCis Pizza

FOLEY — CiCi's Pizza has always been a hot commodity in the pizza chain world, but local owner Paul Mulhern has helped shape the business in Baldwin County into a shining example for the franchise.

Malhern has been a part of the organization since he was 16 years old, working at CiCi's in Mobile and working his way up to lead cook during high school. After college, he became involved with management, continuing to work his way up until becoming an owner of several locations in Baldwin County, such as Foley and Daphne, spending the last 17 years building the business.

"I've always had a passion for that store and that store success," Malhern said. "Once I was able to take over as owner and operator, I just wanted to go in and create a really strong team with a really strong culture and enthusiasm for what we do."

Since becoming owner, Malhern has helped with several facility improvements but has also helped instill a positive workplace culture that continues to resonate within the building. Paul's mother, known as "Nonna," has also had a hand in the local CiCi's franchise, working at all of his locations. She is an Italian-born, two-time cancer survivor and has become a notable presence within the building.

"She just brings energy and fun to every shift that she's helping out on," Malhern said. "She loves to see the guests, and they love her, so it's always appreciated any time she can come in."

Malhern, having been an owner for years now, hasn't had his achievements gone unnoticed. CiCi's has commended him for his leadership and what he has done with the company in Baldwin County.

"Paul represents everything we believe in at Cicis — a hands-on leader who truly understands the power of people and community," said Jeff Hetsel, president of Cicis Pizza. "His commitment to creating great guest experiences and building up his team is exactly what makes Cicis special, and we're thrilled to see that spirit thriving in Foley."

When giving advice to entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners, Malhern said must be driven and determined to achieve the goals they want to see and earn.

"They don't need to be motivated by others. They're self-driven, and it's important to write your goals down so that you can kind of have a path and a timeline of how you want to succeed," Malhern said. "There will always be adjustments to that timeline, and you've got to stay focused on that goal."
