Locals artists, musicians compete in Battle of the Bands in Fairhope

FAIRHOPE — In a town known for its artists and creative talent, several local acts and musicians showcased their own in a Battle of the Bands competition in downtown Fairhope last weekend.

Johnny Mac's and Dr. Music Records hosted the contest Saturday night, where local artists from Fairhope and beyond performed in front of a packed crowd, with the winner receiving five hours of recording time at Fritz Brothers Studios. Along with the competition, several items such as vintage music posters and other goodies were given out to crowd members by local songwriter and artist Drew Howard between sets.

Acts that participated were randomly drawn and performed a short set of songs, with the artists performing including Greta Lugosi, Best Three Minutes, Marla and the Singers, Lightyear Sisters and Analog Cabin. Each artist brought their own style of music to the stage, with the audience voting after all the acts had their chance to perform. In the end, Greta Lugosi as the winner of this month's Battle of the Bands contest in Fairhope.

Wade Wellborn, owner and the doctor himself behind Dr. Music Records, said it was one of the best nights of music he has been a part of, commending each act for their performances. He said more Battle of the Bands events will happen in the future.

"It looked like everyone had a good time. I had a dang good time," he said. "I'm going to sleep for three days now."
