"We are pleased with the quality and quantity of this year's applicants," Sam Andrews, scholarship committee head, said. "We were able to give $12,500 for the 2022-23 academic years to winners who are pursuing plant-related careers as they pursue higher education."
Recipients are Daphne's Garrett T. Springs, studying agriscience as a senior at Auburn School of Agriculture; Fairhope's Aven Brasher, sophomore at Mississippi State University, majoring in landscape architecture; Robertsdale's Colton Bostwick, studying general studies at Coastal Community College in preparation for an Auburn University forestry degree; Orange Beach High School's Mary Michelle Conway, freshman at Auburn, studying forestry; Robertsdale High School's Alison McDaniel, studying general studies at Coastal Alabama Community College pursuing an agricultural business & economics degree; and Gulf Shores' Vivian Mendez, a freshman at Coastal Community College studying environmental science.
Students must be Baldwin County residents and enrolled in plant-related studies as a full-time student to be eligible for the scholarship. Plant-based studies include horticulture, farming, forestry, landscape, architecture, bioengineering, gardening, extension agent, nursery operations, etc.
