The Alabama Sports Writers Association released its preseason rankings Sunday and featured a handful of local teams.

Fairhope ranked No. 7 in Class 7A where Daphne also received votes, Spanish Fort registered No. 8 in Class 6A and Baldwin County also received votes, Gulf Shores was the eighth-ranked Class 5A team to start the season and both Bayside Academy and Orange Beach received votes in the Class 4A poll.

The ASWA used total poll points to rank the teams, the Pirates who finished 9-2 last year received 84 poll points for its seventh-place ranking and the Trojans, 5-5 last year, scored two. Fairhope was the second-ranked nine-win team from last year and Daphne was the only team who finished .500 last year on the 7A poll.

In 6A, the Toros recorded 60 poll points with its 10-2 record last year and the Tigers, 8-4 last year, scored four points. Spanish Fort was the third-ranked 10-win team from last year but only No. 10 Pinson Valley won single-digit games in 2021.

On the 5A stage, the Dolphins were the lone local representatives with 69 poll points after their 6-4 season last year. Gulf Shores, along with Ramsay, won the fewest games last year out of the 10 ranked teams in 5A and joined Vigor as the only other ranked team that competed at a different classification last year.

At the 4A level, the Admirals, 9-3 last year earned 11 poll points and the Makos, 9-2 last year, scored five points. Both played in different classifications last year as well.
