Live Christmas tree pick up and drop off locations around Baldwin County

Once Christmas is over how long do you keep your Christmas tree in place? If you have an artificial tree it could stay up until next year, but the live Christmas tree camp isn't so lucky. If you stress about how to get rid of your live Christmas tree, worry no more. We have put together a list of places to take your tree and the cities that take it for you.

Some trees will get mulched, some placed into waterways to create fish habitat and others used to create dunes. Give your live Christmas tree a new purpose this year.

Daphne

The city of Daphne has three Christmas tree drop-off locations available to residents. The trees must be free of flocking, tinsel, ornaments, and lights to be dropped off.

  • Al Trion Sports Complex – 8600 Whispering Pines Road, Daphne
  • Concrete pad across from Daphne High School – 9300 Champions Way, Daphne
  • Daphne Animal Shelter – 7145 Johnson Road, Daphne
Fairhope

The city will pick up live Christmas trees immediately following the holiday. The trees must be free of flocking, tinsel, lights and ornaments to be recycled. Some trees will be used in a wildlife project to provide a habitat for fish in the Weeks Bay area and the remaining trees will be mulched. Mulch is available to residents for free at the Public Utilities Warehouse at 555 South Section Street.

Gulf State Park

Gulf State Park has used live Christmas trees as part of the dune restoration program. Each year live trees are collected and placed in the dunes by volunteers. The trees will collect sand carried by the wind and once enough has accumulated, native dune plants are planted around the trees. This practice helps to expand and strengthen the dune system which acts as a natural storm surge barrier.

Gulf State Park will accept live Christmas trees the day after Christmas until Jan. 31, 2023. The trees must be free of lights, tinsel and ornaments. No flocked trees will be accepted. No artificial trees will be accepted. Trees can be deposited at the southeast end of the Gulf State Park Beach Pavilion parking lot near the dumpsters. Do not block the dumpsters.

Gulf Shores

The city asks residents to place live Christmas trees out for debris pickup in a separate pile from other debris. Trees will be taken to Gulf State Park. The trees must be free of flocking, tinsel, lights and ornaments to be recycled. Please note Republic Services does not take part.

Orange Beach

The city will pick up trees to be recycled on Friday, Jan 6. The trees must be free of flocking, tinsel, lights and ornaments to be recycled.
