Mike Flanagan's new movie "Life of Chuck," which was filmed in and around Baldwin County, is now playing in theaters.
Based on the Stephen King novella of the same name, "Life of Chuck" follows a man named Chuck Krantz, whose death coincides with the end of the universe. The story is told through reverse-chronological order, beginning with Act Three and ending with Act One, with details about his life and the events leading up to his death and the end of existence itself being revealed over the course of the film.
The movie was released in select theaters on June 6 before making its wide release on June 13, receiving positive reviews from critics. More than that, locals from Baldwin County watching the movie may recognize a few areas depicted in the film.
Probably the most recognizable part of Baldwin County that can be seen in the film is OWA Parks & Resort in Foley. A scene that is also featured in the film's trailer shows the front of what many will recognize as Murder Creek Distillery located on the Downtown OWA campus. Other locations in and around Baldwin County include Bay Minette Elementary School, Old Daphne Methodist Cemetery and Fairhope Health Foods in the Eastern Shore Shopping Center, along with several streets and neighborhoods in Fairhope, Daphne and Spanish Fort. The film was also shot along Dauphin Street in Mobile.
"Filming in a community offers numerous benefits, including economic development, local job creation, tourism and the chance to expose locals to the filming industry," Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan said in a social media post. "Thank you to director Mike Flanagan and local producer Scott Lumpkin for bringing this film to Fairhope and for the shout out!"
Flanagan has filmed a few other projects in Baldwin County in the past, including "Oculus" in 2012 and "Gerald's Game" in 2017, also based on a Stephen King story.
