SUMMERDALE, Alabama -- Attendance was light, but spirits were high on Saturday, March 2 when the Baldwin County Animal Shelter held a free adoption event in celebration of Mardi Gras.
A free rabies clinic was held, along with hot dogs and other goodies, and a K-9 demonstration by Josh Wood and Caitlin Smitherman of Grunt Style K-9.
The event culminated with a King Cake raffle and the naming of the Animal Shelter King and Queen, Sasquatch and Tonya, handled by Sarah Jaresh and Dixie Donald.
While the weather did not cooperate for a parade, Animal Shelter employees handed out moon pies and other treats to young patrons.
K-9 therapy dogs Leo and Tucker with owners Sheila Nelson and Frances Weeks of Visiting Angels Pets with the Daphne United Methodist Church, were also in attendance.
