FOLEY - Downtown Foley is rich with history. From the people who lived here long before us to the buildings, culture, hidden gems and stories, Foley’s is a diverse and deep legacy. Now, Baldwin County and Foley natives looking to take a peek into their heritage or area newcomers who want to find a deeper sense of community can learn all about the history of downtown Foley, all on their own time.

Thanks to a recent grant, Foley Main Street has collaborated with the city to develop a new virtual walking tour.

The Downtown Foley Historic Virtual Walking Tour is available on the Foley Main Street app and requires Bluetooth capability. Once users set out, they will be able to follow the interactive guide on their devices as they visit multiple historic locations in downtown Foley. Locations include the Railroad Depot, the Foley Coffee Shop, The Hotel Magnolia, American Legion, Orange Crush Bottling Company, Holmes Memorial Hospital, and more.

As you travel into the past, the app will offer information about each location in an interactive way including audio tracks with stories from locals and photos. Parents who would like to take their children on the virtual tour into Foley’s past will be able to drop by the Foley Welcome Center (located at 104 N. McKenzie St., within Heritage Park) beforehand to pick up a free activity booklet that accompanies the tour. Children will find lots of activities within the pages. The self-guided tour can be done in any order, and you can spend as much time as you like at each stop.

The Foley Main Street app is free to download. For more information, visit www.FoleyMainStreet.com and follow Foley Main Street on social media.
