With local elections just around the corner after a year's postponement, Lake Forest community leaders are asking subdivision residents to help shape the future of Daphne.
Lake Forest is one of the biggest subdivisions in the state of Alabama and is home to 11,000 registered voters, which makes up nearly one-third of the population of Daphne. In an open letter, Lake Forest encouraged its residents and Property Owners Association (POA) members who live in Districts 2, 3, 5, and 6 within Daphne to consider running for office and municipal elections, including races for city council and mayor.
"We are calling on dues-paying members who believe in Lake Forest to rise to the occasion and represent our interests with integrity and vision. Your voice matters — and your leadership can help guide our neighborhood and city toward a more prosperous and inclusive tomorrow," the letter states.
Byrian Ramsey, president of the Lake Forest POA, said it is their goal to try to create a relationship with the city so they have a voice with many voters in Daphne. Ramsey said they are big enough to represent at most four out of seven seats on Daphne City Council.
"We want representation that can not necessarily be the one forcing our agenda or anything of the sort, but having representation on that city council is imperative to helping us to achieve our goals with our residents and our members here in Lake Forest," Ramsey said.
The municipal election will be held Aug. 26. Candidates can begin to qualify on June 10.
