Kiwanis Club supports Bay Minette Police's Shop With a Cop program

Posted

The holiday spirit is alive and well in Bay Minette, thanks to a partnership between the Kiwanis Club and the Bay Minette Police Department's Shop With a Cop program.

This annual initiative brings joy to selected local children by giving them a Christmas shopping experience they won't forget.

The Kiwanis Club recently contributed to the program, with club president Brittany Clay and secretary Nancy Dean presenting the donation to School Resource Officers D'Andare Lambert, Sgt. Jeff Weaver and Lt. Kendrick Banks.

The officers work closely with teachers and counselors at area schools to identify students who could benefit from the program.

Each holiday season, the department hosts multiple shopping trips, ensuring officers from various shifts can join in the fun. During the excursions, police personnel help the children pick out gifts from their Christmas wish lists, creating a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Funding for Shop With a Cop comes from a mix of sources, including donations from local businesses, organizations like the Kiwanis Club and community fundraisers held throughout the year.
