Kenneth Hilbert Bauer, age 86, passed away on Thurs., Dec. 19, 2024. Ken graduated from Foley High School in 1956 and went on to attend the University of Alabama. His career spanned several decades, beginning with 24 years in sales at Chevron Corporation, where he started in Mobile, Alabama. He later transferred to Marietta, Ohio, in 1977, and then to Shelton, Connecticut, in 1983, where he completed his 40-year career with Hoffman Fuel Company, retiring in 2000.
Known for never meeting a stranger, Ken had a gift for conversation, often sharing an endless stream of stories with anyone willing to listen. He had a deep love for the outdoors, meticulously tending to his lawn and gardens. An avid bird enthusiast and a photographer of sunsets, Ken found joy in the beauty of nature. Throughout his life, he was an active member of his church and choir.
Ken was a man of many talents, but perhaps most cherished was his ability to build and create with his hands. He joyfully assisted his children with science projects, pinewood derby cars, and supported his wife in bringing her craft visions to life. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, community volunteer, and friend.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Hilbert and Helen Bauer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Barbara Ann (Robbins), whom he affectionately referred to as “Love”; daughter Angie Snyder (and her husband Jim) and granddaughters Lindsey and Abby; son Kent (and his wife Melissa) and grandsons Dylan and Jacob, as well as his three brothers: Jim, Clarence (and his wife Zet), and Byron (and his wife Linnie), numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
