FAIRHOPE — Forty-two participating Baldwin County students were welcomed to the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary's Junior Volunteer program this summer. Local students hail from Bayshore Christian School, Bayside Academy, Daphne High School, Fairhope High School, Renaissance School of the Eastern Shore, Robertsdale High School, Spanish Fort High School, St. Michael Catholic High School and St. Paul's Episcopal School.
The students are volunteering in the Cardiovascular/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (2 North), Cath Lab, Clinical Education, Colony Rehabilitation Hospital, Endoscopy, Fitness Center, Gift Shop, Human Resources, Medical Unit (2 South), Physical Therapy, Post-Surgical Unit (3 North), Radiology, Same Day Surgery, Surgery and Women's and Children's Unit (4 South) at Thomas Hospital.
High school students between the ages of 14 to 17 who maintain at least a B average and have an interest in volunteering at the hospital have the opportunity prior to the end of school to apply for the program. The 2022 program runs from June 6 - July 29.
"This is a great opportunity for our area students to get involved in and learn about health careers early in their lives," Melita Willkie, manager of volunteer services at Thomas Hospital, said. "We look forward to offering them a wonderful place to volunteer and the opportunity to provide a valuable service to their community."
