ORANGE BEACH — Food, competition and football are a winning combination in South Alabama and a new event coming to The Wharf in Orange Beach has all three elements.

The Coastal Alabama Business Chamber (CABC) is hosting a new event Saturday, Aug. 26, the Inaugural Coastal Tailgate Cook-Off Challenge to celebrate the launch of its new CABC Foundation.

"The new foundation has been a labor of love for us behind the scenes and we can't wait to introduce it to the community," said Penny Hughey, vice president of education and programs for the CABC. "The chamber believes in supporting education to serve as a bridge between our school systems and our local workforce."

Greg Alexander, president and CEO of the CABC said, "Establishing a foundation will help us coordinate and fund educational resources, programs and research to further advance the activities of the Chamber. We are excited for the new opportunities this will bring to our efforts."

The Inaugural Coastal Tailgate Cook-Off Challenge will pit amateurs and professionals of all ages against each other to see whose tailgate fair reigns supreme. Tailgating teams will be competing for a coveted golden ticket to the World Food Championship (WFC) in Dallas, Texas as well as people's choice awards in several categories. Entry into the competition is $100. The CABC will post rules, competition details and a sign-up link to mygulfcoastchamber.com the week of May 15.

"It's great to help bring a big-time WFC Competition back to Orange Beach," said Danny Calamatti, CEO of Alabama Coasting and longtime WFC Partner. "Everywhere we go, WFC teams talk about what a great time they had when the competition was here and so we're happy to help welcome them back and there's plenty of room for new competitors too. Amateurs have always done well and had a good time at our events, so if you can cook tailgate food, then whether you're a professional or first-timer, you are welcome."

Do not miss a chance to kick off football season while sampling a variety of food. Entrance to the event for attendees is $20 and includes samplings of all competitors' preparations, live music, games, cornhole and one vote toward the people's choice awards. Alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks will be available for purchase. Make sure to wear your best college football theme attire as a 'best dressed fan" award will be given by organizers.
