Jesus and Alexander the Great

Posted

Alexander the Great was King of the ancient Grecian Empire in 336 B.C. and reigned for about 15 years. During that time, he never lost a battle. Educated by Aristotle he rose to great fame and ruled a vast empire. Yet, He died at the age of 33. It is said that he wept at one point because he had no other lands to conquer.

Jesus was not an earthly King. Neither did he rule over an earthly kingdom while he was here upon the earth. Yet, he too, died at the age of 33. Think about these two men for a few minutes.

Jesus and Alexander both died at the age of 33!

One lived and died for himself. One lived and died for others.

The Greek died on a throne…the Jew died on a Cross.

One's life a triumph seemed…the other's life seemed like a loss.

One led vast armies…the other had twelve disciples, minus one who betrayed him.

One shed the world's blood…the other shed his blood for the world.

One conquered the world in life but lost it all in death. The other conquered death in life and won the whole world by His death.

Jesus and Alexander both died at the age of 33!

One died in ancient Babylon…the other on Mt. Calvary, the "place of the skull."

One gained the whole world for himself…the other gave Himself for the whole world.

One conquered every tongue…the other conquered every grave.

One made himself like a god…the other was God but became a man.

One lived to enslave and conquer…the other died to make men free.

When the Greek died his vast empire collapsed. When Christ died His Kingdom became eternal!

Jesus and Alexander both died at the age of 33!

Alexander lost his throne…Jesus gained His.

The Greek built a kingdom out of war… Christ built His Kingdom out of love.

One was a baby who became a King…one was a King who became a baby.

Men kneeled before Alexander…One day Alexander will kneel before Jesus!

At 33 Alexander died…at 33 Jesus died and Rose Again and gives Eternal Life to those who BELIEVE and place their FAITH in Him! Amen!
