FOLEY — Gov. Kay Ivey awarded a grant to the Foley law enforcement agency.

According to a news release, the Foley Police Department will receive $20,171 to purchase 11 new simulation pistols and related equipment. The grant will also supply conversion kits to modify semiautomatic rifles into simulation weapons.

The funds will also cover training for officers so they can understand how to properly use the new equipment.

"Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect and serve our communities every day, and having up-to-date equipment helps them be better prepared for what they may face on any given day," Ivey said in the news release. "I am pleased to assist these agencies in their efforts to keep their officers and communities safe."

"ADECA is pleased to support Gov. Ivey's efforts to continue assisting the police officers and sheriff's deputies of these cities and counties as they continue keeping our communities safe," ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said in the release.

The Foley Police Department is one of seven law enforcement agencies receiving a portion of the $750,000 grant. Other cities include Atmore, Flomaton, Saraland, Brewton, Evergreen and the Clarke County Commission.
