Hunger takes hold of Baldwin County native Jonathan Young this week on “Survivor” season 42

Seven contestants remain at the onset of week 10 but the “Survivor” season 42 contestants are hungry for food and the $1 million prize that is just weeks away. The power continues to shift as the game play gets more strategic.

The seven remaining contestants including Jonathan Young, of Gulf Shores, are showing signs of weakness and hunger. The rice is running low, and Young is struggling to do anything let alone fish, but he tries to hide his struggles. The others are taking notice of his change in demeanor.

“Coming into this, one of the things I did was say I am going to eat the same amount as everybody else and not put a target on my back and it’s worked,” Young said. “I’m here at the top seven but I burn 2,000 calories a day not doing anything. I am at a point where moving is rough.”

Host Jeff Probst had a surprise twist in store for the episode's immunity challenge called Do or Die. Each of the remaining contestants can choose to participate in the immunity challenge or sit it out. The winner of the challenge receives individual immunity and a spot in the remaining six. The looser of the challenge will play a game of chance at tribal council. Win the game and be safe from elimination or loose and go home.

Only two choose to play for a chance at immunity, Young and Lindsay. The duo has been battling it out in challenges all season.

The challenge is a test of metal and physical toughness. Each contestant must balance on a narrow perch while holding handles behind their head. Just their heels rest on the perch. If a foot comes off and they let go, they lose.

As the challenge rolls on Young and Lindsay’s bodies visibly show exhaustion. They shake as their muscles tire. Young keeps watch on Lindsay for signs she is getting close to giving up, but she persists. At the 12-minute mark Lindsay’s body finally gives in and she jumps off the perch. Young wins immunity and is set for the final six.

Once back at camp there is talk of strategy as the final seven begin to work out who is gunning for who. The big question mark for everyone is will Lindsay be safe or go home so contingency plans need to be made.

The majority is set to send Drea home because she is too strong in her game play. They must make her feel safe because she has an idol.

Drea is working the group to get Mike out and plans to use her knowledge is power advantage to take his idol. Drea makes a mistake and trusts Omar with her plan, but Omar goes to Mike. Mike entrusts the idol to Omar.

At tribal council Lindsay comes out on top and is safe. When Probst announces it is time to vote, Drea pulls her knowledge is power advantage out only to learn Mike does not have the idol. Everyone is shocked.

When Drea goes to vote she uses her extra vote advantage to vote twice for Mike, but little did she know she would be the one going home with five votes. Drea leaves with kind words for her fellow tribe members and even hugs Mike.

The final six includes Young, Lindsay, Maryann, Mike, Romeo and Omar. With only two episodes remaining the game play will continue to become more strategic. Will Young be able to continue to dominate the challenges to win immunity to protect himself or will the lack of food finally level the playing field? What twists lie ahead? Check back next week to see if Young is one step closer to the $1 million prize.

“Survivor” season 42 airs each Wednesday on CBS at 7 p.m. CST.
