Hot air balloons fill the sky over OWA May 12-14

The 18th-annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival will fill the grounds and sky around OWA with over 50 balloons May 12-14. The annual event draws balloons and spectators from across the country each year. In 2021, the event was named the Event of the Year by the Alabama Tourism Department.

The family friendly event is full of high-flying adventure, entertainment, arts and craft vendors and more each day. Balloon flights, nightly balloon glows and tethered rides (weather permitting) add to the fun at dawn and dusk. Don't miss seeing the three uniquely shaped balloons this year; Humpty from Kentucky, Laska the Unicorn from Florida and Sunny Boy (a giant sun shaped balloon) from Georgia.

The festival opens at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 12 with food, arts and crafts and retail vendors and live music. The Tip Tops take to the stage at 7 p.m. and a balloon glow will fill the sky at 7:30 p.m. (weather and wind permitting).

Tickets can be purchased at gulfcoastballoonfestival.com for tethered rides and the V.I.P. Experience. A full schedule of events is also available on the festival website. The festival grounds are located at 100 North OWA Boulevard, Foley.
