Historic Blakeley State Park is inviting the community to lace up their running shoes for the annual "Battlefield Blitz 5K and Fun Run," set to take place Saturday, Feb. 1.

The event offers a chance to race through history while supporting the park's special programs and projects.
The unique race kicks off at 8 a.m. with the thunderous boom of a replica Civil War cannon, propelling participants onto a custom course that winds through the state's largest Civil War battlefield. The site, known for its pristine preservation, saw Union and Confederate forces clash more than 150 years ago.

Runners of all ages can compete for awards in multiple age groups, while those looking for a more relaxed experience can join the one-mile fun run later in the morning. After crossing the finish line, participants will be treated to refreshments to round out their morning of fitness and history.

The event is made possible through the support of several local sponsors. Bay Breeze Heating and Air Conditioning is the presenting sponsor, with featured support from Lad Drago State Farm, Cadence Bank, Midway Lumber, Eastern Shore Ace Hardware and The Southland Fund. Publix is a contributing sponsor.

Preregistration for the event is $25 and includes a commemorative race T-shirt. Runners can sign up or find more details at www.blakeleypark.com/events. Blakeley State Park is located along State Highway 225, about five miles north of Spanish Fort.
