Helen York (Dougherty) was born in Hinton, Oklahoma, on Mar. 13, 1927, to Raymond Joseph Dougherty and Grace Missouri (Etier) Dougherty. Helen passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Robertsdale, Alabama, at the age of 97 on Jun. 3, 2024. Helen was born and raised in rural Hinton, Oklahoma, and graduated from Northwestern College. Helen had various roles throughout her life, including being a clockmaker, nurse assistant, housewife, and, most importantly, a mother and grandmother. Helen married Treva York of Salitpa, Alabama, and together, they built a home in Robertsdale, Alabama, where they raised their family. Helen was a woman of faith, known for her vibrant personality, love for reading, and passion for westerns. Her favorite author, Louis L'Amour, and her beloved western show, 'Gunsmoke,' were testaments to her literary and entertainment preferences. Helen's legacy lives on through her children (spouse): Judy Peterson (Andy), Larry York, Mike York (Nancy), Grace Green, Dean York (LaNelle), Beth Childress (Dusty), and Travis York (Will). Her 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren are a testament to the love and joy she brought to her family. Helen is now reunited with her husband, Treva York, and her parents, Raymond and Grace Dougherty, as well as her siblings: Maylene, Margert, Grace, Mary-Jane, Ruth, Rudelle, Ray, Kelley, Jim, and Pat. A visitation was held on Sat., Jun. 8, at 9 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Parish on Highway 59. The family requested a private graveside ceremony for family members following the Mass. Instead of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or St. Patrick's Parish.
