Hatch Fairhope Powered by Bessel program launches with community investor event

Posted

Hatch Fairhope, Baldwin County's business hub and tech accelerator, has launched its Hatch Fairhope Powered by Bessel program with a cohort of six startup companies presenting devices and other technologies at a Thursday, June 6, community investor preview in Downtown Fairhope.

These introductions covered topics ranging from blood glucose monitoring to ophthalmology solutions, kicking off an opportunity that will allow entrepreneurs to pitch their companies to investors at the end of the 10-week program to receive funding for equity stake and bring their ideas to market.

This hybrid experience provides businesses an assortment of exposure to in-person events, expert mentorships, funding, specialized workshops and consulting in technology development. The inaugural group set to test Hatch Fairhope's Powered by Bessel curriculum includes Avicenna Diagnostics, DNA Nanobots, Endeavor Orthopaedics, NEMS Recovery, PERCY and The Shape Sensing Company — most of which Hatch Fairhope states are in the pre-seed and pre-clinical stages of concepts designed to save time and money for health care providers and improve patient health. Each company was selected through a process focused its potential in three areas: impact, innovation and scalability.

"Hatch Fairhope is the perfect partner as we expand our successful Powered by Bessel accelerator to a cohort-based format," said Chris Danek, CEO of Bessel LLC. "We help startups supercharge their strategy, execution, and fundraising. Now, with the help of Hatch Fairhope, we'll also connect startups with the world-class research at the University of South Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham and broaden their exposure to sophisticated investors from the region."

Hatch Fairhope is funded by the Baldwin Community + Economic Development Foundation (BCEDF), Coastal Alabama Community College, the City of Fairhope and PNC Bank. Its new site at the former Fairhope K-1 Center is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed in 2026.
